Hallux valgus brace AM-OP-01
Hallux valgus is a deformity characterized by the lateral deviation of the big toe. The condition may develop due to changes in the alignment of the first metatarsal bone and the base phalanx of the toe. Inflammation of the soft tissues can also occur simultaneously, often triggered by pressure from footwear on the deformed area. It is widely believed that the tendency for the big toe to become deformed is genetically inherited.
Hallux valgus is more common among women, largely due to the negative impact of high-heeled shoes on foot biomechanics. Such footwear places the foot in an unnatural position and creates excessive pressure on the bones. As the deformity progresses, pain may be experienced both while walking and at night.
In the treatment process, not only is foot offloading and regular exercise important, but also the use of orthopedic braces (orthoses). Early treatment with orthoses can lead to a significant correction of the deformity. The orthosis is best worn in shoes during daily walking.
