Infant Umbilical Hernia Brace (AM-PPB)
The infant umbilical hernia brace is an excellent aid for the treatment of umbilical hernias. A baby is connected to the mother via the umbilical cord. After birth and the cutting of the cord, a small opening remains in the abdominal muscles where the cord passed through. As the baby grows, this opening normally closes on its own. However, in some cases, the muscles do not completely meet or heal, leaving a small gap. Through this gap, intestines or fatty tissue may push out, creating the appearance of a bulging or swollen navel.
Umbilical hernias occur in about 10% to 20% of all infants. The hernia is more noticeable when the baby cries and tends to recede when the baby is calm. If the hernia persists until the child is 4–5 years old, surgery may be necessary. Until then, conservative treatment with an infant umbilical hernia belt featuring a silicone pad is highly important.
The ActiveDistance™ fabric is composed of three layers. It is made from EVA foam, laminated on both sides with a non-elastic polyamide layer that is easy to fasten. This self-gripping property of ActiveDistance™ ensures a wide range of adjustability and a perfect fit. Most importantly, ActiveDistance™ is a non-elastic material, making it ideal for stabilizing the body.
Thanks to the use of soft comfort foam, the brace is extremely gentle, enhancing wearing comfort. The brace includes a soft silicone pad that gently pushes the hernia back in place. It is anatomically shaped to fit perfectly over the umbilical area. The material is also waterproof.
